Recognition of excellence

Dr. Louise Humbert was recently honored with the University of Saskatchewan Graduate Students’ Association Advising Excellence award. This award honours a graduate student advisor who has shown excellent supervisory and mentoring skills as well as exceptional support for their advisees’ ideas, scholarly work, and financial needs. Dr. Humbert has supervised 23 students at the University of Saskatchewan over the past 19 years. She is highly sought after by coaches, athletes, educators, and aspiring researchers because of her exemplary reputation in community-based research within schools and within the athletic community. Former and current students affirm that the personal relationships she fosters and the mentorship she provides are what make her an outstanding supervisor.

Dr. Humbert has been recognized previously for her excellence in teaching but this award speaks to her dedication and commitment as a graduate supervisor. The best supervisors bring a varied complement of skills to their interactions with their graduate students and Dr. Humbert certainly provides her students with an enriching and engaging experience. From the simple things like providing prompt feedback to helping make community connections to further research interests, her students feel supported and encouraged at every stage of their academic careers and beyond as they pursue their career goals.

Her own research interests are community based and she has over 20 years of experience working in community settings. As a founding member of both Saskatoon and Saskatchewan in motion, Dr. Humbert is passionate about working to develop initiatives that will encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Building on her example, many of her students go on to assume leadership positions in their respective fields.

We celebrate and congratulate Dr. Louise Humbert for this well-deserved recognition!
