Biomechanics

Areas of Expertise

Research conducted in the Biomechanics of Balance and Movement lab investigates the function of neuro-musculoskeletal systems when generating and controlling movement. The lab houses state-of-the-art 3D motion capture, force measurement and muscle activity monitoring systems which are used to create comprehensive descriptions of biomechanical and motor control patterns during gait, sport and various activities of daily living.

Applications of this research range from understanding basic mechanisms affecting balance to developing computational models examining loads placed on bones and joints to assessing outcomes of physical activity interventions and rehabilitation protocols.
