Combining culture and fitness

As the student demographics shift on our campus, Recreation Services, as part of the College of Kinesiology, has been working to create and implement inclusive programming to meet the needs of all students. A first step was the introduction of programs and classes for women only and since the fall of 2015, we have been offering a unique fitness opportunity that combines Aboriginal cultural elements within a PAC fitness class called POWFit. The class is inspired by the work BrandyLee Maxie has been doing to encourage active living among First Nations people while respecting and celebrating Aboriginal culture. POWFit welcomes all students and PAC members to come and try this combination of traditional powwow dance moves with fitness routines.

For more about BrandyLee and POWFit, please check out this profile from The Sheaf.
